Southern Wales and England

These items are displayed in the museum on site at Chedworth Roman Villa. It all started to come to light when two men ferreting for rabbits in the woods on Lord Eldon's estate, discovered little squares of coloured stone in 1864. They were identified as ancient mosaic tiles and unearthing of the Villa began. The scale and significance of the discovery soon became apparent. Many of the items in the museum were found at that time.
